Technology and Me

When I think back I realized that I've always used technology. Not just basic technology like the kind we use everyday and take total advantage of but computers, cell phones etc. All through elementary school I had computer classes. In those classes I never learned anything but typing and how to play games. That is all fine and good but growing up I never had a computer in my home until I was in the 7th or 8th grade. And when it comes to a cell phone I didn't get one of those until I was a freshman in highschool and I was one of very few people at that time to have one. Which looking back on that now seems strange. When you look around you see almost everyone with one in thier hand or clipped to thier hip or something. Just like now when you enter any home you are bound to find a computer.
When you look around and you see people with cell phones and computers and they dont know how to use them you begin to wonder if they got them to keep up with the times or if they got them because they really wanted them. I know that I wanted a cell phone. And my dad finally gave me one when they started taking the pay phones out of my school. A lot of kids get theirs taken away for running up the bill and they think they cant survive without one but the truth is we don't really need a cell phone and we don't really need a computer. They are just two technological advances that our society has taken advantage of. I truely believe that these two things make us much lazier. Yes they make our lives easier but then again what are house phones for? Has anyone heard of a library? We can survive without these things but we won't ever stop using them becuase we have become dependant on them.

I think people that get technology such as computers, cell phones, cameras, etc. that don’t know how to use them have a variety of reasons for getting them. My grandma got a computer and a cell phone and a digital camera. She wanted to use e-mail and she knows payphones are disappearing and she wanted to be able to take pictures without messing with film. I had to teach her to use all three. On the other hand, my grandpa doesn’t have a cell phone or a computer, and I’m pretty sure he’s still using film. I think it’s just a personal preference, taking into account circumstances.

When you think about all the technology we have today can you honestly say you can go back to a typewriter and start typing with no backspace to correct your mistakes.I am not a very good typer. I would be killing so many trees it's not funny thank god for the backspace. Not everyone has all the emenities technology has to offer.
