When I think back I realized that I've always used technology. Not just basic technology like the kind we use everyday and take total advantage of but computers, cell phones etc. All through elementary school I had computer classes. In those classes I never learned anything but typing and how to play games. That is all fine and good but growing up I never had a computer in my home until I was in the 7th or 8th grade. And when it comes to a cell phone I didn't get one of those until I was a freshman in highschool and I was one of very few people at that time to have one. Which looking back on that now seems strange. When you look around you see almost everyone with one in thier hand or clipped to thier hip or something. Just like now when you enter any home you are bound to find a computer.
When you look around and you see people with cell phones and computers and they dont know how to use them you begin to wonder if they got them to keep up with the times or if they got them because they really wanted them. I know that I wanted a cell phone. And my dad finally gave me one when they started taking the pay phones out of my school. A lot of kids get theirs taken away for running up the bill and they think they cant survive without one but the truth is we don't really need a cell phone and we don't really need a computer. They are just two technological advances that our society has taken advantage of. I truely believe that these two things make us much lazier. Yes they make our lives easier but then again what are house phones for? Has anyone heard of a library? We can survive without these things but we won't ever stop using them becuase we have become dependant on them.

My Space
Let me just say that I hate hate hate MySpace. Let's just say that I have experienced the whole "MySpace" phase and I feel that it was a total waste of my time. I believe that (Please do not take offense to what I am going to say I am mostly referring to my circle friends) a great majority of people who have a MySpace are extremely immature. When people want to say something to you they say it in a comment rather than to your face. I think that MySpace creates too much drama between friends. Now maybe my opinion is tainted because of my personal experiences with the site. I will not dwell on my experiences but because of the immaturity of my "friends" on MySpace I deleted my site and my boyfriend deleted his and several of my other friends followed suit. On the other hand though, one of my best friends from work met her fiance on MySpace so I guess it is a good way to meet people. There is also that thought in the back of your head of "Who am I really talking to?" You hear on the news about child molesters getting in contact with little girls who are too young to even have a MySpace. I mean wow, my little sister knows all about the site and she told me of a girl who is a little older than her that was murdered by a stranger she met on MySpace. Seriously are sites like MySpace really necessary? I know that really is not the point of this blog but how can you talk about your experiences with sites like this without discussing points such as this?

Popular Culture
As I sit here and think of the way that Popular Culture has been a part of my life I realize that overall I do not follow the "mainstream" flow of things. In middle and high school when, like all other kids at that age, I was trying to fit in of course I wanted the newest coolest clothes and the most expensive shoes and I thought that without all of that the people that I wanted to be friends with would not even know that I existed. That is when I realized that I did not need all of that to have some of the most amazing friends a person could have. So now I do not go looking for what is new and cool but I have developed my own unbiased opinion on what I believe is cool. When i get up in the morning I don't dress to impress I wear what I feel most comfortable in.
Now, when it comes to music I am the same way. I listen to everything from rap and hip hop to country and alternative and the list goes on. My sister is into bands like "Boys like Girls" and "Misfits" and I like artists like "Jordan Sparks" and "T-Payne" and we are constantly telling one another to listen to one song or the other from various artists. When you look through my mp3 player you can find just about anything you are in the mood for.
So I guess you can say overall Popular Culture has been a factor in my life in some form or another weather it is music or clothes or the television shows that I watch. But I don't think that affects all of the choices I make.
